New this semester at Broome: double the Faculty Fellow programming. As most of you know, my family and I have recently relocated from Water St., where we lived for the past five years, to Broome. (Thanks to everyone who came to our open house!) In addition to the staples of Broome's FFiR calendar -- Brad and Jo and Benny's Cafe Broome, Bitch and Bitch, Big Ideas, Chick Lit and Cheese, Eco-Broome and more -- we'll be offering another crop of regular programs for Broome:
- Salon 712: Have a talent you're anxious to share? Need a dress rehearsal for your dress rehearsal? We're looking for a handful of students interested in showcasing their stuff for a friendly audience of peers. Anything goes: music, film, writing, lab work ... we have the space to let you do what you need to do. (We even have a piano!) If you'd like to volunteer yourself or a friend, email me. You can find the link here.
- Downtown Scenes: These events are designed to get you into the surrounding neighborhoods and make the most of your time at Broome. A couple times this semester we'll hold a neighborhood history book club -- readings that focus on the past lives of our downtown streets. We'll also take a series of outings into the surrounding neighborhoods, from the last remnants of the Soho art scene to various East Side eateries. If all goes as planned, we'll close out the semester with a sail on the Seaport Museum's historic schooner Pioneer (a favorite from our years at Water Street).
- Broome Gives Back: Service opportunities this semester will include partnering up with the AIDS agency God's Love We Deliver and afterschool programs in area schools.
- Beyond Broome: The Wooster Group's upcoming production of Hamlet, anyone?
Bookmark this page and check back regularly for these programs -- and all the others you've come to expect -- as well as a wide variety of content from students and staff. Also stay tuned for more info on Broome's transformation next fall into one of NYU's first residential colleges, a living/learning situation you'll be invited to join.
