Tasty dumpling is a fantastical place to eat a lot of good food for cheap. 5 dumplings are one dollar. Snapples and bowls of soup are also one dollar.

There's a Chinese place about two blocks down on Center street with a yellow awning that has absurdly cheap food. Choose 5 of roughly 25 options (in decent-sized portions) for $4, and only $3 after 5PM. I'd list the name, but it's in Chinese. It says "Lunch Box" on the sign and it's on the right if you're walking downtown from Broome on Center.

Here are few places to grab good and/or cheap food, depending on what you consider walking distance:
Vegetarian Dim Sum House on 24 Pell Street. Delish and Cheap.
AND
Pepe Rosso's To-Go on Sullivan and the south side of Houston. Not so expensive and delicious paninis. Fun environment to sit down in, yet made quickly if you're on the go.

My favorite cheap eats place within walking distance of Broome street is La Esquina, right on the corner of of Centre and Lafayette.
Also, might I add, that Eileen's cheesecake has awesome dessert! Just regular cheesecake is great.
1 and 2) Best food delivery/Cheap eats: Zen, the sushi place in St. Mark's. If you order over (if memory serves) $10 of sushi, it's all half off. And DELICIOUS.
3) Best dessert: Max Brenner just opened a new location on 2nd Ave. and 9th St. so you don't have to walk all the way up to Union Square. And even if it's still a little bit of a walk it's amazing enough that it doesn't matter.
4) Best Deals on Clothing: Urban Outfitters sale stuff. Right now they're doing an additional 75% off of the sale prices at the one on Broadway just north of Houston. I've gotten $200 jeans for $10, it's incredible!
5) Best entertainment: The Apple Store in SoHo (On Prince and Greene) will do concerts by really cool acts. Ben Folds, The Decemberists, Pete Yorn...totally fun. And always FREE. YAY.

The buffet at dosa chutney is alright. It is pricey, but they give you a free dosa and it is vegetarian friendly. The falafel place on the corner is a good deal overall, though it can;t compare price wise to the places on campus. Eileen's Cheesecake is good, they sell small cakes at $2.50 a piece and they are the right size if you don;t want a whole slice.

2. excellent dumpling house on lafayette between canal and walker has some pretty boss dumplings. also, landmark diner on centre and grand has the best breakfast ever, and it's less than five dollars if you go before eleven.
3. babycakes on broome street, about an eight minute walk east. vegan cupcakes served by hot crunchy hipsters: what more could you ask for from a desert place?

1. delivery.com allows you to see various menus of places that deliver to broome street at the time you request (great if you want to know what is open at 3am, etc) you can do all the ordering online
2. Kitchen Commune offers moderately priced, but extraordinarily flavored French cuisine. It's on Broadway south of Broome on the east side of the street. It's truly delicious and worth checking out. They also deliver.
3. Eileen's Cheesecake takes the cake.
4. I'm no shopper, but H&M seems tried and true for cheap clothing, though not for quality.
5. The Angelika Film Center, west of Broadway, has a great coffee shop and ambiance, and even better films that you're not likely to see in the mainstream.

This could count as a desert: La Esquina has the best Mexican Hot Chocolate. Ever.
Awesome entertainment: Mercury Lounge (Houston and Essex, i believe, over in Lower East Side) and Bowery Ballroom (Delancy, Lower East Side) have great concerts that feature new bands so the shows are cheap- between $10 and $25 depending on night and act.

Grotta Azzura (right across the street) has a lunch special for $9.50 that includes pasta and an entree. It sounds slightly expensive for lunch, but the portions are huge and can be made into at least two if not three meals.

I think someone already mentioned La Esquina. I am from texas and usually stay away from Mexican food in new york just to be snobby. But La Esquina is really good, as well as Conchita which is just past spring on Lafayette. Also, Soho Park is really cute and a good place for a cheap date.
Not necessarily a good deal for the wallet, but a good deal for the eyes (if you are way into clothing) in resurecction at 217 Mott Street. I dont think I could actually afford anything here but they have some beautiful vintage fashion clothing.

1. Teany on rivington (orchard/ludlow): moby owns it, their quiche is out of this world. not expensive.
2. Atlas on 2nd (4th/5th st): awesome little cafe, has tons of vegan treats, sandwiches/salads, (vegan and dairy) ice cream, and crepes. entrees are $5-10, desserts are $2-3.
3. Babycakes on broome (orchard/ludlow): vegan cupcakes.
4. Pearl River Mart on broadway (broome/grand): cool asian clothing.
5. Arlene's Grocery on stanton (orchard/ludlow): rock'n'roll karoke monday nights. Mo Pitkins on ave a (2nd/3rd st): free bingo monday nights. Pianos on ludlow (rivington/stanton): free karoke monday nights.

1. Best Food Delivery: Kin Khao (Thai Cuisine, Spring St. between Broadway and Thompson) -- I haven't actually had their delivery b/c it is so close, but I loved the food and service when I went, and it does deliver.
2. Best Cheap Eats: the pizza place on Mulberry and Spring with the Vodka Pizza sign is pretty good for its price. Also, The Landmark, btw. Grand and Centre, has $4 pancakes and coffee if you can manage waking up early enough.
3. Best Dessert: Balthazar -- the classy place splits its prices in half after 8pm (I think) in case you don't want to spend too much money.
4. Best Deals on Clothing: the scarf salespeople on Prince St. btw. Lafayette and Broadway
5. Chinatown!!! Lot's of fun karaoke and other random fun things.
Other cool place: There is a really cool grocery store on street when you first reach the heart of Chinatown. It has a lot of cool drinks and snacks that you can't get elsewhere, and it also has a lot of cool ceramic plates, cups and other cool collectibles downstairs. I don't remember exactly where it is, and it is really hard to find because the entrance is somewhat hidden, but it is most certainly there.

Best deals on clothing- Young Designers market on Saturdays- You can talk to the designers yourself and haggle. Burrow Soho on crosby as well.
Best entertainment- Angelika Theatre, Film Forum, Landmark Sunshine
