Hi, all: Unless you've been living under a rock (or the weight of coursework and upcoming finals) you probably know we have a new museum--the New Museum--opening in the neighborhood this weekend, just over on the Bowery.
What you may not know, though, is that beginning at noon tomorrow, the museum will be open for 30 continuous hours -- FREE. Target sponsored the promotional event and has already distributed the timed tickets, but according to the museum's website you may be able simply to show up and avail yourself of unused or returned tickets.

Here's the paper's review of the opening set of exhibits. Of the lead show ("Unmonumental: The Object in the 21st Century"), critic Robert Smith writes: "While visually messy, way too hip and a tad monotonous, the show is a gauntlet thrown down to other New York museums regarding contemporary art. It says: Get your nerve on. Take a stand. Start an argument by being focused or maybe even one-sided instead of just by being confused or simply too big or small."
I'm sure we'll be making our way over more formally before too long, but if you simply can't wait -- and don't manage to score a free ticket -- the student rate is only $6.
