Ferguson’s “Visible Skeleton Series” is a compelling visual representation of the artist’s deeply internal investigation of her conscious and physical experience of scoliosis. Ferguson’s many-layered, multi-media drawings were initially based on
x-rayed images of her spine. Later, thanks to the assistance of Dr. Andrew Litt and Phillip Berman at NYU Medical Center, Ferguson obtained a 3D spiral CT scan that permits her to view her skeleton “from any angle, rotating and tilting it to match whatever movement or pose” she would like to draw. Formally exhibited at The Armory Center for the Arts (Pasadena, CA), the National Scoliosis Foundation (Boston, MA), and the Museum of Science (Boston, MA) among others, Ferguson’s work has been described as “exquisitely subversive,” “lovely and horrific,” “provocative and beautiful.”
