Visit Stone Barns Farm with the Green Stream at Goddard !!

Dear all-

Remember when President and Mrs. Obama flew to NYC for a romantic weekend last year? Well they ate at Blue Hill, a beautiful, elegant and eco-aware restaurant in the Village (pretty close to us at Goddard, but they don't take Campus Cash, so maybe you haven't eaten there---let your parents treat you sometime).  And we have an opportunity this week to visit the Blue Hill farm! Dan Barber, the owner and chef of Blue Hill was on the forefront of the local foods revolution in NYC, creating awareness about the environmental and economic importance of local food infrastructure. Part of his mission is to promote education about growing food, and he does this through Stone Barns, a working farm and educational center just north of NYC.

We are heading there this Thursday afternoon for a field-trip. We only have 12 spaces left, so let Suhaly know if you would like to come.  suhaly.bautista@gmail.com

Also the farm was featured in this month's issue of Martha Stewart. How timely!

The Green Stream is covering all costs for you, but this isn't a cheap event, so it is imperative that you follow through if you claim a space.  If you commit, we expect you to attend--so check and re-check your calendars before you commit.  If you take a spot and then can't make it, you MUST find another student to take your place 24 hours ahead of time.  If you don't show up or cancel too late for us to find a back-up, you will owe the stream the cost of your spot, $50.

Although the official tour is from 3-4pm, it is up the Hudson in Westchester County and we will be traveling up the Metro North rail line so timing will be essential.  Meet in the Goddard lobby no later than 1pm on Thursday since we need to catch a train at Grand Central. I expect that we should get back to Goddard about 6pm.

I anticipate the leaves will be in their full fall, colorful, glory so this is a perfect way to spend a Thursday afternoon.

Sara and Suhaly
