Adventure/Lab Stream Serve People Living with AIDS

In culmination of last week's programming around World AIDS day and HIV Awareness week, members of the Broome community traveled to the Church of St. Luke in Greenwich Village on Saturday to volunteer with the People Living with AIDS Project.

One group volunteered earlier in the day and helped to prepare and cook a HUGE amount of food, while residents attending the second shift (pictured above) helped with dish washing and the serving of food directly to attendees from 3-7pm.

The PLWA project is much more than your average soup kitchen. The program is headed by a professional chef  who also runs his own catering business in NYC. He puts together a three course meal every Saturday evening for PLWA. This week's menu included Portuguese sausage soup, spinach salad, pork loin, chicken curry, rice, homemade mashed potatoes, broccoli, and coffee crumb cake for desert. The residents who volunteered were lucky enough to receive their own meal after everyone else had been fed. Delicious!

The PLWA project is a wonderful service to the community and to an important demographic. The meal program operates EVERY Saturday and is ALWAYS looking for volunteers. Contact RA Drew or RA Anna-Kay to get involved with this wonderful opportunity!
