NYU MLK Week

For the ninth-consecutive year, NYU will commemorate Dr. King’s visit and his legacy by hosting a week-long schedule of special events. The theme for this year’s NYU Martin Luther King, Jr. Week is, THE POWER OF COURAGE: PASSION. PURPOSE. PERSEVERANCE. 

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3

(UN)CHARTED: A GHANAIAN ARTS FESTIVAL

6:30PM, KIMMEL E&L AUDITORIUM (4th Floor)

Join us as we open up African Heritage Month (AHM) and MLK Week with an evening of art created by NYU students who have studied abroad in Accra. The event will  include spoken word, dance and vocal performances. Visual artwork will also be displayed, and a Ghanaian dinner will be served.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3

8TH ANNUAL MLK ORATORICAL CONTEST

7PM, PLESS HALL 1

Join us as NYU graduate students from across the university compete in oratory. Students will express their views of the theme, The Power of Courage: Passion. Purpose. Perseverance., through traditional speeches, dance, and poetry. A panel of judges will choose the winners of the contest. Appetizers will be served. Brought to you by the Steinhardt Graduate Student Organization.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4

FRUITVALE STATION FILM SCREENING

6:30PM, VANDERBILT HALL, TISCHMAN AUDITORIUM

Fruitvale Station chronicles the tragic story of Oscar Grant who was killed at the Fruitvale subway station by BART officers on New Year's Day in 2008. Join us for a special screening of this powerful film and a thoughtful panel discussion. RSVP: bit.ly/cmepevents.
