Over the past two weeks, SIX young men have died from suicide as a result of homophobic bullying. These young men have felt that there is no way out, and that life does not get better. These six are the ones that are being publicized by the media; there are countless youth (LGBT and otherwise) that are subject to bullying and harrassment on a daily basis, just for expressing who they are.
It's time to take a stand and send a message to our youth who feel discouraged by the harrassment/bullying they face on a daily basis. This Sunday, October 3rd, the NYU LGBT Office (in conjunction with LGBT organizations on campus and Delta Lambda Phi) is hosting a
"You-Are-Loved Glowlight Vigil" in our own backyard of Washington Square Park from 9pm-11pm. Broome will meet in the lobby at 8:15pm and will be meeting Goddard at 8:45pm in the Goddard lobby. Please feel free to express yourself in any way you'd like, as this is a chance to show that our community is one that supports all people as they are. Glowsticks will be provided.
It's one thing to talk about making a change, but it's another to act and make change happen. This is one small step that I hope you take with us in showing the youth and the rest of America that it's ok to be who you are, and that you are loved.
